RSS Newsreader Feed for new posts

Postby strom » Aug 06 2003 3:29 pm

(I've copied this from the announcement section to allow comments)

For fun, I've installed a rudimentary RSS feed for the various RSS newsreaders that are now available (see this link for an up to date list).

Once you've installed a newsreader, subscribe to this URL which generates the XML source that is parsed by the RSS newsreader:

http:// molecularbiology.forums.biotechniques.com/forums/rss.php

The default is set to the last 15 posts. If you want to change the number of posts to display, use the following syntax:

http:// molecularbiology.forums.biotechniques.com/forums/rss.php?c=20
(where the number can be any number--well, I've tried up to a 100 and it works for that).

The XML feed now sends the complete post.

Note: Viewing the URL above in a web browser only results in the unparsed XML.

Another RSS feed URL (less data)

Here's another URL to generate a simpler newsfeed:

http:// molecularbiology.forums.biotechniques.com/forums/topics_anywhere.php?mode=show&out=rss2.0&f=a&n=10&jlp=y&sfn=y&r=y&sr
=y&a=y&m=y&so=d&b=non&lpb=1&lpd=0

Note:
1. Paste this as one long string into your newsreader of choice, i.e., take out the line break I put in after "y&sr" so that the forum would wrap.
2. change n=10 to n=x where x is any number of last posts you want to include in the rss feed.

If anyone wants a newsfeed with the date displayed in a format other than "American" style, let me know and I'll generate a modified RSS URL for you.
