How to determine cell death?

Postby newbie17425 » May 25 2017 2:36 am

Hi,

I'm new to this area of science and I have never done experiments to determine cell death. I wanted to know what kind of experiments can I do to

a) How can I identify a protein?
For this I thought of doing a Mass spectrometry, followed by 1D and 2D SDS PAGE to determine the protein and follow it by doing a Western Blot to determine if the protein is present or not using a selective antibody.

b) Determine that a protein is protective against cell death?
I read about TUNEL and MTT assay to determine cell death.

c) How to confirm that the identified protein promotes cell survival?

Could you please suggest what kind of experiments would be suitable for these kind of experiments. I want to use brain tissues to do these experiments.

Thanks.

Your questions cover a large area of research, and cannot be answered in a few sentences. I suggest you to search in PubMed using the key words that matched with your research interests. Then read the papers and try to understand the methods they used and the results they obtained. If you still have problem in understanding the papers, then come back and ask specific questions.
