I like the original hand-drawn version better, actually. It has an xkcd flavour to it.

The hard part would be finding a manufacturer that can print all the way to the edges of the shirt. It's possible by more expensive.
Reading about expression of genes "in Planta" makes me think they're doing it in margarine.

I heard this one about a month ago, so either someone saw your T-Shirt and added it to a list of "nerdy pickup lines" or it was already floating around for a while and you seized on it;)

Amusing, regardless of the origin.
