DNA extraction: gravity flow and spin column

Postby peter8f » Nov 20 2016 10:08 am

Hi all,
I'm using a new kit for genomic DNA extraction. All the kits I used previously were based on spin column and centrifugation steps were necessary during the process of DNA extraction.

The new kit I'm using is based on gravity-flow and no centrifugation steps are involved in the process.

Can someone explain me why I can't perform a centrifugation step when I use the columns of a kit that is based on the gravity-flow system?
thank you.

either the column or the packing won't be able to withstand the rcf.

it may pass the sample through the matrix too quickly.
