Ideal speed of the centrifuge machine.

Postby Rubend » Feb 13 2017 8:10 pm

Hi everyone,
I am looking for a centrifuge machine in order to use for adn extraction. My query is: What is the capacity that you recomend me? I actually have an microcentrifuge wich is> GUSTO® HIGH-SPEED MINI CENTRIFUGE with Speed: 500–12,500 RPM. Is it Enough for this purpose?
Tanks in advance

In terms of speed, you should focus on RCF (g) rather than on RPM. Apparently your centrifuge achieves 9,800 xg, which is impractical for DNA precipitation; DNA extraction with minicolumns might be feasible but you should probably increase centrifugation times, to avoid leaving liquid inside the cartridge (just be careful not to let the centrifuge heat up).

A good centrifuge for DNA extraction would be refrigerated and would achieve at least 15,500 - 16,000 xg.
