Protein folding prediction by computer game!

Postby selenahill21 » Dec 18 2014 9:53 am

It's really amazing how an online computer game can really treat a serious scientific problem. Luckily, gamers playing a protein-folding game called Foldit have helped unlock the structure of an AIDS-related enzyme. Since 1996, treating HIV and AIDS has not changed much. The same drugs on fundamentally the same routines are prescribed. One of the greatest problems for researchers has been untangling how the enzymes of the virus function and work together. Researchers studying the HIV-like disease eventually decided to ask users of a computer game for help. Just three weeks later, the query has been answered.
