How do you clean tungsten carbide beads for DNA extraction?

Postby ncc007 » Sep 20 2016 6:07 pm

I have done some DNA extracion using DNeasy plant mini kit and tungsten carbide beads. From their manual, they suggest to use HCl to clean the beads. My lab normally put beads in 10% bleach for 30 min and rinse with di-water before autoclave them. I know each lab has their own practice. My friend lab never autoclave beads. I wonder whether it is necessary to autoclave beads? In you opinion, between HCl and bleach, which one is better to degrade all the DNA residual? Thanks!
